Good things to bring, how to open up a peanut butter jar that's stuck closed, how to untie a plastic bag that's tied too tight, water purification, dealing with intestinal parasites, good water bottles to bring, and a lot more.
This is one of the most interesting interviews you will see and one of the strangest and most challenging stories imaginable. A woman is stuck on the same beach where I'm camping, unable to go to town or anywhere else, because of an intense sensitivity and allergic reaction to practically everything.
My response to the "New age girl" and "New age guy" (or whoever it was that started this series of humorous videos). I couldn't pass up the chance to take advantage of an internet trend myself. Here's the traveler's response (using various footage from my past trips). Safe travels, and always wear a helmet! You'll see what I mean...
This is a short, 3-minute video tour of my spectacular trip into the Himalaya mountains of the little visited region of Uttarakhand, northern India, just west of Nepal; in which I get within just a few dozen miles of Nanda Devi, 2nd highest mountain in India...
My latest short movie is a wild ride around the world. Part 1: Skiing, Part 2: Mountain biking, Part 3: Random exploring, to the Himalaya mountains, Great Pyramids, Cappadocia, Turkey, Greek isles, an idyllic beach in the Philippines, and lots more. The skiing and mountain biking parts feature a few ridiculous screw-ups of mine, such as when I flew over the handlebars on my bike (good thing this was at the beach!) Featuring the music of Agent Orange, Red Nex (cool techno banjo music), Phish, the Verve and more...
A short movie about the island of Kauai, Hawaii, USA (which happens to be where I currently call home). Beautiful beaches, waterfalls, amazing scenery, hiking in the rainforest, leaping dolphins, goats, poisonous centipedes and more...
My latest short movie takes you around the world in 4 minutes: to the Great Pyramids of Egypt, an amazing beach in the Philippines, the Greek isles, Cappadocia in Turkey, on a ride in both a Filipino tricycle taxi and an Indian auto rickshaw, and more. Make sure and turn your volume up, because it's set to Phish's incredibly rocking song, "Free"...
I explored the island of Patmos for about ten days back in September of 2009, as part of a 3-month mountain biking trip around Greece and the islands. Patmos is most famous for being where St. John wrote the Book of Revelation, and you can visit the cave where this supposedly took place. There's a lot more to do and see there however, and I had an amazing time just exploring randomly away from the main towns and tourist areas. I just put together a video of my adventures there, which explores the beaches, hiking, the tangled maze of alleys in the peaceful village of Hora (where the cats rule) and plenty more, feel free to take a look and give any feedback...
Feel free to take a look at a short 10-minute movie I just put together about my visit to the island of Santorini, Greece back in October, 2009. This was just one of the 11 islands I visited as part of a 3-month mountain biking trip around the Greek islands and the mainland. It includes one of the most spectacular sunsets I've seen, setting over a hidden church I found randomly down a side path that went through a little crack in the cliffs looking out over the volcanic caldera, pretty cool:
I spent 3 weeks in Turkey in the fall of 2009, about five days of which was spent in Cappadocia. But that was undoubtedly the highlight, and even more than that, of my trip to Turkey. It was definitely one of the most amazing, unreal places I've seen in all of my travels. So, here's a little movie about it, enjoy...
This is another movie I recently created, about a backpacking trip I did here in Kauai, Hawaii just last week:
One of the other things I needed to do out there was come up with a decent cover shot for my upcoming book, "Following My Thumb: A Decade of Unabashed Wanderlust", which is with a publisher. It's a compilation of 26 travel stories of mine from the 1990s. So I found a great location for a cool photo along the trail, but there was nowhere to set up my camera in order to get the photo with the self-timer. So I waited for a while for someone else to come along and take the picture. After about 20 minutes, as I was getting impatient and ready to hit the trail, a young guy came down the trail. It turned out he was a photography major in college, so he was more than happy to help me out and took a bunch of shots from different angles, etc.. I sent the photo on to my publisher, and they liked it. They already put the cover together:
This is a short movie I created about my two-week long loop last December starting in Rishikesh, India, going to Almora, Kasar Devi, Kausani, Joshimath and Pauri, little visited areas of the Indian Himalaya mountains, just west of Nepal:
