The global increase in chronic diseases outbreak has forced may patients to practice medical travel tourism. This is an act of travelling to developed countries like United States and India in order to get proper medical treatment. The high cost of medical treatment in America has forced many people to seek treatment in other countries where the procedure is less expensive. Most people travel abroad to seek medical attention when suffering from cancer, kidney failure or heat complications. The cost of getting surgery in liposuction, Botox and plastic surgery is very low as compared to the price of getting it done in ones native country.
Are there personal requirements of medical tourism?
When one has done proper research and identified the country that offer proper medical treatment at affordable price it is advisable to:
• Visit your personal health provider to get tested of any disease. This should be done early enough since some diseases do not have symptoms in the early stages. The recommended time to go for the test is 5-8 weeks before you set on the journey.
• Identify the area you are to get the accommodation and check if there is clean water. If not pack bottled water is recommended and should be from approved manufactures. This prevents the outbreak of water borne diseases which are communicable.
• Get vaccinated against diseases like yellow fever which affects most people after travelling to areas with different climate. This can be done in government health clinics in order for one to get medical certificate that may be required in the country one is to travel.
Why do people prefer medical travel tourism?
According to a recent research there has been an increase in the number of patients who are travelling to countries like Korea and India for medication. The main reasons behind this increase are:
• There are better health facilities in these countries and the cost of medication is friendly even to those who have no insurance covers. Through innovations in the health sector India has produced machines that can perform dialysis to patients who have kidney problems. Most patients are also travelling to this country to get kidney transplant services which are not available in their home countries.
• They offer approved medical services that’s why people have built confidence in them, some countries have claimed to have medicine to cure and prevent certain diseases yet the medication has not properly been researched. This creates dilemma and the patient opts to travel abroad.
• The privacy of an individual is maintained, this is very essential especially if the patient does not want the public to know about the ailment. People who hold big positions in the government prefer getting medical services away from their home country. Through this they are able to undergo through a peaceful healing process without the media and newspaper writers broadcasting about their health condition.
Through internet research one can get reliable information on medical services offered by different countries which are recognized by World Health Organization. This is the body that ensures that the standards of medical treatments are met by all countries in the world.
