Even the best hotels and other paid accommodation that do their best to keep their rooms tidy can make small mistakes that may leave you feeling a little off colour when you wake up the following day.
The problem with most accommodation is the fact that other people have been staying in it before we did. Considering that is the case, it is important to take some precautions while we are staying in our room. Even the best rooms will still put us at some risk of illness, or even just a simple cold. There are a number of things we can do to protect ourselves from not feeling well after we have stayed in a hotel. This is mainly commonsense. Just because a hotel looks spectacularly clean, it does not mean we should not take precautions.
· Wiping Down. Most of the time when we get some slight illness like the common cold, it is because we have touched something and then we have touched our mouth. This can happen just about anywhere. A simple precaution after arriving in our room is to use a disinfectant hand-wash to wipe down potential areas of trouble in the room. These areas include door handles, telephones and TV remotes. It will only take a couple of minutes but these are the areas that are often the cause of germ transfer.
· Neighbourhood. Even though the best hotels do a lot to clean their bathrooms and showers, you would probably not risk stepping into a shower in any other place, no matter how clean you were told it was. Having your own thongs to wear while having a shower will protect your feet from any possible germ transfer. It may sound a little strange to be wearing rubber loafers while you are entering a shower, but getting something nasty on the souls of your feet is not something you will want.
· Bed Spreads. There seems to be no reason for why this is the case but many hotels still do not change their bedspreads very often. They will change the sheets and make the bed for you while they continue to use the same bedspread for a very long time. This is some strange habit that is a problem of the industry around the world. The best thing to do when you enter the room is to remove the bedspread and fold it up and place it in the wardrobe or cupboard available. You don’t want to be sleeping with the same covers that many people have been.
· Corner Check. Dust mites and other nasties will always find a way to stay alive and thrive in any room. They will often be found in the corners of the room or any other place that has been lacking attention. A quick look around the room to make sure this is not the case is highly advised. If you are not satisfied with the condition of your room, should arrange for the house keeping to come, and sort it out immediately.
· Draughts. It only takes a slight movement of air in your room to cause you to feel cold or catch a chill overnight. Compensating by raising the temperature of the room will only make the situation worse. Cold draughts will normally come in from two places. Either, Underneath the door on the entrance to the room, or from somewhere around the windows. Closing the curtains as well as possible will help with a draught from the windows, and you might want to consider putting a rolled up towel across the bottom of the door.
A few small precautions can make all the difference to how well you feel in the morning.
