First you are guided along a Levada (Madeiran water channel) through the humid and evergreen native forest to a fantastic view point. Here the Trocaz Pigeon can be scoped while Chaffinches and Robins play around you. The way back is by the same route with contrasting views and Firecrests can be seen jumping from one branch to another as day gets warmer. This humid and evergreen native forest contains the world's largest continuous area of ancient laurel trees and is a delightful environment.
Next you break from this inspiring walk and if weather allows there is a ride to the third highest peak of Madeira where you can admire the amazing mountain scenery of Madeira and view species which make this arid area their habitat. If weather is not favourable at the peaks the tour will be diverted to a coastal area.
Admire all details of Laurel Forest, UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, from flowers and tree to birds and butterflies. Be amazed with the views of deep valleys and high mountains of Madeira island. This tour combines a short and easy walk through beautiful Laurel forest with flora and bird watching in the stunning mountainous centre of Madeira island.
