Havana Cuba
Continent : Caribbean
Country : Cuba
Key Place(s) : Havana

Havana is the capital, leading commercial Centre and a major port of Cuba. Havana has a population of about 2.1 million which makes Havana as the largest in terms of population in Caribbean region. Havana faces three seasons throughout the year which are summers that are from July to September, winters from October to April and then spring from May to July. The best season to visit Havana is October because of the eye catching scenes that the snowfall provides to the city.

Havana can be described as a city which further has two main cities. Those two main cities are named as 1.Veda do, which is along the skyline of Veda do and was very famous in the 19th century for casinos, nightclubs and luxurious hotels. This place was considered as the “Place for the Royals only” and should be visited. The second is old Havana in which there are relics and buildings of the ancient times, overhanging balconies and narrow streets i.e. entirely old structure. This place is a part of Havana’s entertainment, business and even residency. The other portion is the new sub-urban district. Presently, Havana is a center of the Cuba’s Government and almost all major headquarters of businesses and ministries are grounded there.

Talking about the festivals, there are four main festivals that occur in Havana year round which are:

§ Havana Jazz Festival

§ Havana Film Festival

§ Ballet festival of Havana

§ Havana in May

The main event that occurs in Havana is the “HAVANA IN MAY” in which the whole month is dedicated to the functions and displays related to their customs, norms, traditions, foods and heritage. It has been said that the popular music genres Gospel, Blue, Rock and Roll emerged from Havana in 1901.

Havana film festival is the second largest film festival after Kara, which takes place in Beach every year in April. In this festival, the best movie chosen from Hollywood, Bollywood and film industries of different countries are displayed which attracts thousand as audience from the world.

The Havana jazz spring festival is an occasion that occurs twice each year. Jazz singers from around the globe come and show their talent, but the most popular feature of this occasion is that there is no ticket associated with the concert. You just have to spend on going to Havana. Then there is player’s championship which is basically a golf tournament, the spring bird migration trail which shows an eye catching view of the birds that are migrating from one country to another in spring. Besides this, there is a lot of fun entertainment and extravagant at the Havana amusement park which is a theme park that consists of wild life, joy rides, water fall and much more.

As far as the crime is considered, Havana has been ranked as the 3rd most dangerous city of the Cuba, the reason being is the border and the sea level; that it shares with different countries through which people belonging to different ethnicity enter Havana and start illegal acts and crimes. Amongst the food items, Havana mud ice-cream is widely known and enjoyed not only in the city, but throughout the world. The best time to visit Havana is March, because that’s the time when the weather is moderate and you get to see everything easily and beautifully (as rain is heavy in other months).

If you want good cigars to take home then I suggest you visit proper cigar shops who have cigar rollers in house that make the home brand - no label just bundels and very tasty at a fraction of the cost.

Review

Good Points
Havana is unique in feel and that didn't come cheaply. One day the americans may be back but for now the republic remains resolute and you will find no homeless people here.
Bad Points
Jiniteros become an annoyance at first but then they will recognise you are no new arrival with time.
