You may want a holiday yet not want to be waited on hand and foot. There are obvious restrictions in staying in a hotel; the times of meals alone.  Those restrictions need to be balanced against the flexibility that self catering accommodation offers. Mum deserves some time out of the kitchen

The compensation for having to do a little work around the place is the stunning surroundings. Few locations in the UK, and certainly few in England, match the Cumbrian Lakes. They are every bit as rich as those in continental Europe and beyond.

The decision to spend your annual holiday in Cottages Lake District may be one of the best you have ever made. Once you have enjoyed the region for the first time you are likely to mark it down for a return visit. The fact that there are so many stunning locations merely adds to the attraction of being able to explore the whole region over time.

Lakes and Fells

The biggest problem is choice. The most famous lakes such as Windermere or Ullswater are obvious places to consider first time around. There are modern facilities available on these lakes but they are sympathetic to the requirements of National Park status. There are no noisy activities and speed limits are scrupulously enforced.

It is a pleasure to cruise the length of one of these large lakes but it is equally delightful to enjoy the quieter stretches of the shoreline. The beauty of these areas has been an inspiration to many, poets, writers and artists.

While the whole area is known for its lakes, it also attracts walkers of all abilities. There are those that prefer a gentle stroll whilst enjoying the fresh air, and the far more energetic that seek the challenge of the huge number of Fells. There are even some who enjoy the sport of Fell running; up and down a Fell as nimble as a goat seeking new shoots.

Areas such as the Lakes are initially attractive because of their natural beauty. They attract visitors for other reasons also. That can be history that develops in such a rich area, a history born of man’s wish to live in such surroundings.

Tourist facilities

The modern tourist facilities have developed to cater for visitors. These include cafes and restaurants, public houses and handicraft shops. While the summer is the height of the season with peak numbers, there is still some demand in the other seasons. The Lakes is an area close to large population centres that are able to take advantage of mild weather even in winter to drive up for a break.

It provides a sharp contrast from city life. It is an area of country lanes; certainly not dual carriageways once you get into the region proper, so it is important to relax and absorb your surroundings. You may not be able to move too quickly on some of the busy roads but if you have selected a cottage, you have flexibility. You don’t need to arrive anywhere by a deadline. Deadlines are what you face each day at work. This is your holiday.

Every city, place or town has its own characteristics existent amongst its people. Dublin, the capital city of Ireland, proves the same with numerous public buildings and landmarks serving their purpose of giving an insight of the Irish culture dominant in its region. Hence you will not regret taking your flights to Dublin and will surely enjoy the fabulous activities and attractions that this beautiful destination has in store for you.

Dublin Viking Adventure

Call it an educational trip, a theme park and a museum combined into one, the Dublin Viking Adventure sure takes its visitors for a spin. The museum section exhibits artefacts such as weapons, utensils as well as their ships to represent the Viking way of life. The theme park provides rides across a stream via Viking boats, while simulated acts of Viking wars and clothing are also conducted. Outdoors, certain buildings of the Viking village of Dyflin are preserved so as to give an idea of Viking settlement and architecture.   National Concert Hall   Dublin has had a phenomenal taste when it comes to music. The National Concert Hall caters to daily event management requirements, pulling in some of the most renowned composers as well as Europe’s popular musical maestros to bring forward live enthralling performances. Ranging from classics to new creations, these concerts are mostly found house full and host a variety of musical genres. Ballet, choir and opera musicals are some the most enigmatic, while jazz, pop, classical and traditional performances budge in to conform a complete role with regard to representing all kinds of music on the national platform.

Gaelic Games Centre

Active in parallel with the Olympics, the Irish came up with their very own versions of physical games which are very similar to multiple major sports of the modern world. The traditions of playing these Irish games are kept alive at the Gaelic Games Centre. The grounds provide space for Gaelic style football, handball and hurling, with players mostly being locals at the community level. After all, it fosters a unique way of interacting and getting to know Irish norms of society by just participating in the events.

The Brazen Head

The times have gone when elders and travellers alike would sit in large gatherings to exclaim their experiences and exploits for an audience lending their ears for a tale or two. However, a certain old pub by the name of the Brazen Head has kept the classical tradition alive, congregating a group of story tellers every night by dinner. Irish folk tales and legends are quoted amid live music in the background to settle in a comfy ambience for all to eat and listen for a light time spent at the pub.

The Little Museum of Dublin

Shedding light to the smart way of life of this city, the Little Museum of Dublin highlights much of what the cultural history is composed of, as well as the opportunities when Dublin has made it big on the international scale. The English style house has been preserved over decades, with every internal wall decked with inscriptions, portraits, photographs of occurrences as well as the famous people of Dublin. The collection has been made from the contributions of the people themselves, thus ensuring a cohesive community based effort in bringing together one of the most versatile history projects in the UK.

Mist covered glens, snow capped peaks and rivers where the salmon fishing is the best in the world. These are just three reasons to proclaim Scotland as the jewel in the crown of the British Isles. Some might say it is St Andrews, the ‘home of golf’ which is the jewel in the crown of Scotland. Others might point out the rich legacy of history, the well preserved Georgian architecture of Edinburgh or the rugged, unspoilt coastline. Whatever the reason, a holiday in Scotland is best experienced from a self catering country cottage in the Kingdom of Fife.

Scotland the brave

Wherever you look in Scotland you will see signs of its turbulent history. According to the Visit Scotland website there are hundreds of historic sites open to the public. These sites span over 5,000 years of history north of the border. A Scotland vacation wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Bannockburn. Site of the First War of Independence against the ‘Auld Enemy’ it is a must see for history buffs and lovers of Scotland the brave.

Spending a few days with your loved ones at some of the most exotic places on earth is very enchanting. From the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy to Christ Redeemer in Brazil, are wonders that should never be missed in a lifetime. It’s a far more beautiful experience, when we see them for real; the beautiful landscapes, mountains, unbelievable manmade structures, and lot more.

Brazil, the prominent Latin American country is full of such wonders. Brazil is often associated with its football team, but there is a lot beyond that. Rio de Janiero and Sau Paulo are the popular tourist spots in Brazil. The country has over 5.1 million international visitors every year.  In fact tourism is a major sector in Brazil’s economy.

Why Brazil?

Brazil offers diverse tourism options. It has a lot of natural resources which are very aesthetic like the adventure travel through the forests, the beaches and resorts, waterfalls, etc. It’s ranked on top for its natural resources by the world heritage site committee. It also has a lot of spots that are of great historic and cultural importance too.

Some of the major natural attractions in Brazil are:

·        The great Amazon jungle, which is the largest rainforest which according to survey provides 50% of the world’s oxygen.

·        The Amazon River, which is the largest river in the world.

·        The Arpoador beach, Rio de Janiero

·        The Igazu Falls, which is next to the Niagara Falls in ranking.

For a person from Network, which is a concrete jungle, it would be a mind blowing experience trekking through the Amazon forest in Brazil. Tribal tourism is also another important section of tourism that has gained popularity recently. This will mostly comprise of trekking in the forest camping in tribal areas and interacting with the tribal’s. It gives you a great cultural exposure.

It has many historic sites which are in the list of world heritage site. Some of them are Ouro Preto historic town, Olinda historic centre, Salvador de Bahia historic centre and above everything the Christ redeemer or Cristo Redentor, which is among the top seven modern world wonders.

Another important factor about Brazil is the outstanding hospitality and service facility that they offer at resorts and hotels that are close to these destinations. They too have a lot of natural essence in them. For example, resorts that are close to Amazon forest are made out of wood and leaves of pine trees. This is to give the tourist a better experience.  There are tree top houses for couples too.

How to get the best in Brazil?

Brazil is a great place to visit, and one must always stay in the resorts that are close to these spots to enjoy it to the best. So before deciding a trip to Brazil, it would be great doing some research on the hotels and resorts close to your destination. There are many travel agencies which would take care of all travel and accommodation needs of the tourists. Look out for international packages so that you can save some money too.

Many people think discovering good, qualified Podiatrists is really as easy as obtaining your telephone book or carrying out a make an online search and selecting a name. But it isn't always that simple. Just because a Podiatrist is really a foot physician doesn't mean you are able to lower your own standards. A physician who cares for the feet continues to be a physician, and you need to carefully examine credentials as well as reputation.

The California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA) is a great place to begin your look for Podiatrists. You can travel to the CPMA web site and look for Podiatrists their own by areas. This does not mean a doctor is befitting you, but it is a good starting point.

Last year I got it right and I would like to tell you how I did it. For the first time in my adult life, I managed to arrange a holiday where everything worked out.

It has not always been like that, by any means. I remember the time when my wife and I and our children were motoring round northern France. I had done all the hotel bookings in my best French and so far things had been okay. Then, on one fine afternoon at about 6pm we arrived at our next hotel. That was where it all went wrong. The lady at the desk was adamant. She had never heard of us or of our reservation. There were no rooms available anyway. No, monsieur would have to take his femme and les enfants elsewhere.

We found a place eventually.

Things like that can really spoil a holiday. That is why I now use a proper holiday provider. You pay them and they get it right for you.

Take last year, for example. We decided to go to Thailand. It is a wonderful country, with a wealth of places to visit and things to do. We decided to start our trip in Bangkok, before heading to Chiang Mai and then finish the trip in Phuket. Without the help of our holiday provider, organising such a complicated holiday in a foreign country would have caused much stress and heart ache. Thankfully, our tour operator did all the leg work, leaving us free to enjoy each part of our trip without worrying about organisation. We stayed in luxurious hotels in Bangkok, trekked through the jungles around Chiang Mai with a helpful tour guide and enjoyed waterskiing and island exploration in Phuket.

At every step of the journey, from arriving at the airport to getting in a taxi to return home, we were assisted by friendly and helpful people. Our holiday company had recommended places to visit in each of our stops and even gave us directions, so there was none of the map-rustling hassle usually called for in new destinations.

Every hotel we stayed in seemed more plush and relaxing than the last. In Bangkok we stayed in a palatial hotel which had every convenience imaginable. Chiang Mai saw us in a traditional hut-style boarding house with great food, kind staff and conveniences. In Phuket we pushed the boat out and chilled out in a five star luxury hotel, which was truly heavenly.

The two weeks went by in a haze of exciting adventures, good food and beautiful surroundings. Without the worry of planning the travel and accommodation, I felt much more relaxed and enjoyed the holiday more as a result. I will definitely be returning to Thailand again and booking the whole trip through my holiday company. It truly was the perfect holiday!

Holidays with children should be an opportunity to offer them new experiences and broaden their horizons. Whilst this is often the case when you take your kids on holiday, there are sometimes a few setbacks that can make the whole experience a little more stressful than it should be. Flights with kids can be a nightmare, but at least it's only a short part of the holiday. If you are staying in a hotel that isn't particularly child friendly, however, your dream getaway can turn into the holiday from hell.

Thin walls between rooms, unsettled children, problems at the pool or a menu that none of the younger ones will eat from are just a few of the problems that can arise when you are travelling abroad with kids. Whilst a lot of hotels do have some child friendly facilities, the reality is that they are often not as great as the brochure would have you believe and you return from your holiday feeling more stressed than when you left.

Create a home from home instead

This is where renting a villa could be the answer to your problems. It's all about creating a home from home where you get to experience all of the great things about being on holiday without any of the drawbacks. There are plenty of self-catering villas to rent in Ibiza as well as many other holiday destinations throughout the world. It's just a case of finding the perfect one to suit your family and their needs.

The benefits of renting a villa

There are all sorts of benefits to renting a villa for your family to stay in. You will have privacy and the total freedom to do what you want without the fear of annoying other hotel guests. After all, it's the kids' holiday too, so if they want to run around and let some steam off, why not let them have the freedom to do as they please?

Many holiday villas have their own private swimming pools, so you can spend as much time splashing about as you want. You won't miss out on any excursions or activities, either, as the majority of villas are conveniently located to all the main tourist attractions of the area, or they can be easily reached by car hire or public transport.

One of the main things that put people off from renting a villa is the thought that they will have to cook for the family every night. This is not necessarily the case. Many private villas come with the option to have an evening meal included and there is usually a good selection of nearby restaurants to eat from too. After all, this is meant to be a holiday for everyone! However, you will have freedom to do your own snacks and it will save you a fortune. Rented villas are a great stress free holiday option for families with kids.

The Outback Bowl might not rank up there with the FA Cup Final among UK sports fans, but for the millions of avid college football fans in the USA, it is one of the biggest events in the sporting calendar.

College Football - US-Style
When North Americans talk about  football, they are of course talking about that fast-paced, hectic game that we know as American Football. And they certainly talk about it a heck of a lot, as the United States is truly a nation of sports fans and football is up there with baseball and basketball among the country’s most fanatically-pursued sports. And among the big footballing dates in the American sporting calendar, the Outback Bowl is one of the biggest, bringing together the best of the college football teams in a New Yearrs Day match. College football is taken extremely seriously in the United States, with the big college teams considered to be some of the best teams in the vast country.

Whatts in a Name?
If the Outback Bowl sounds a little more Aussie than All-American, thatts because the competitionns original name - the Hall of Fame Bowl - was changed in 1995 when the bar-restaurant chain Outback Steakhouse took over sponsorship of the event. The game is held every year in Tampa, Florida and attracts a huge live crowd at the Raymond James Stadium, while hundreds of thousands more fans gather friends and family around them to watch the game on television at home. The bowl itself is the culmination of a week-long series of sporting events - from parties and dinners to conferences and features top teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference college football leagues. The winning team stands to win millions of dollars - as well as bragging rights, of course.

New Yearrs Football Parties on the Beach
For Brits, it can be hard to imagine spending New Yearrs Day partying on the beach - and heaven help anyone who would dare to strip down to their bikini or bermudas on a British beach at New Year - but in sunny Tampa Bay, this most exciting of annual sporting events is the spur for some serious partying on the beaches, with supporters gathering to cheer on their team of choice at official and non-official Outback Bowl parties. With beers in hand, a lively crowd of girls and guys of all ages gathers on the sands of Tampa Bayys famous beaches, of which Clearwater Beach is arguably the biggest draw. Marching bands, cheerleaders and an array of swimwear clad college football fans pack the sands, turning the first day of the year into one of the liveliest for sporty types. Even those without much real interest in the game tend to join the gathered throng for New Yearrs Day fun and socialising - certainly beats nursing that post NYE-party at home in chilly Britain.

AUTHOR BIO: Adriana Frederick is a freelance sports writer and editor based in Leeds, Yorkshire. A major fan of Leeds football club, she is also an avid follower of the American college football leagues, following several years living in sunny Florida. Travelling with a little one isn’t the easiest thing in the world. There are so many things to take along that you almost inevitably end up feeling like you’ve forgotten something. Also, you want to ensure that you stay on track with your fitness regime while travelling. That’s why it’s always a good idea to start packing a good couple of days early to make sure that you don’t leave out anything important at the last minute. Here’s a list of vital things you don’t want to miss when travelling with a toddler or infant:

  1. Your baby’s medicines: This includes any vitamin supplements, medicine for common conditions, such as fever, cold, sore throat and saline drops for a blocked nose. If your infant suffers from some other condition requiring prescription medication, also be sure to take these along. It’s good practice to keep medicine bottles in a hard case so as to prevent them from breaking. Also keep medicines within easy reach so that you don’t have difficulty accessing them when required.
  2. Diapers, lots of diapers! You do not want to be running out of diapers especially if you are travelling over long distances. Carry plenty extra. It might be more convenient to carry pant-style diapers which can just be slipped on and off. Also to carry along with the diapers, is cotton wool or baby wipes, cream for prevention of diaper rash and baby powder.
  3. Clothes, bibs, baby booties etc: Carry at least two outfits for every day. If you are travelling to a region with a winter climate, ensure that you carry plenty of sweaters and woollen socks, thermal wear, jackets, caps and blankets. Also carry extra bibs because babies tend to spit up very often. If you’re travelling to a warmer climate, carry plenty of cottons and airy and comfortable clothes. It’s also a good idea to make the baby wear trousers and a shirt instead of a one-piece jumpsuit because it’s easier to change diapers and if they wet their pants, you can just put on another one instead of having to change the whole outfit, as with overalls.
  4. A pair of comfortable shoes for yourself, yoga mat and any other exercise equipment: Carry a pair of comfortable running shoes with you so you can go for a quick jog or run wherever you are. Also carrying a yoga mat is a great idea as it’s small and light and doesn’t take up much space. If you have exercise equipment, it’s a good idea to carry the portable version with you so that you can easily fit it in your suitcase.

Travelling with your baby need not be stressful. Make sure that you take some of their favourite toys or things to keep them occupied for long flight, train rides or car trips. Also being with a baby doesn’t mean that you can’t maintain your own diet and fitness. Stick to your fitness regime, and make sure you’ve got everything before you leave home.

If you're planning a Tuscan holiday, you may be struggling to choose between the fantastic types accommodation on offer. From hotels and bed and breakfasts to villas, it may seem all options have their own advantages. When staying in Tuscany, however, there really is no better choice than a villa holiday.

Freedom

A villa holiday allows you to do exactly what you want, when you want. You're not restricted by hotel mealtimes so you can have breakfast whenever you get up without worrying about missing your time slot. You don't need to be at the dining table by a certain time for your evening meal so you can enjoy total relaxation and freedom from clock-watching.

Tuscany is famous for its food and staying in a villa allows you the freedom to enjoy this at its best. You can sample the freshest, tastiest produce bought from the local markets. Stock up on fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses and enjoy them in your own villa. For days when you don't want to eat in, you can pay a visit to one of the spectacular local restaurants. A Tuscan villa holiday allows you far more choice and freedom than staying in a hotel.

Privacy

A villa holiday allows you to spend quality time with your family with no one else getting in the way. You can unwind and enjoy the company of loved ones without intrusions or interruptions.

If swimming is an important part of your holiday, plenty of villas come with their own private pool. You can relax in your own personal paradise, safe in the knowledge you have complete privacy.

An Affordable Option

If you're travelling with a large group, you may find staying in a villa is cheaper than booking hotel rooms. As you generally pay for the villa as a whole rather than just the number of people staying, the more of you in one villa, the less the cost per person.

Even if there is only a small group of you, it is easy to manage your holiday budget in a villa. Eating some of your meals at the villa rather than eating at a restaurant is not only cheaper, but also allows you to experience the real Italy. Tuscany villas are available at a range of price points so may be more affordable than you think.

Create Your Perfect Holiday

Staying in a hotel is usually a one-size-fits-all experience. With a villa, however, the range of options is endless. Whether you want traditional rural charm for two or a sprawling slice of luxury for a large group, there is the perfect villa for your needs.

You can often tailor every aspect of your holiday in a villa, from adding a hire car for excursions to requesting a cooking and housekeeping services to allow you to spend more time enjoying yourself.
