The Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong is the premiere business hotel in the city offering business facilities, conference/meeting space, and an incredible spa for when the work's all done.
There are literally hundreds of hotels in Hong Kong, but none of them compare to the best of the business hotels like the Mandarin Oriental (located 5 Connaught Road, tel. 852-2522-0111).
What makes it so special? Where do I start? I'm not too sure, so let's start at the beginning. The Mandarin Oriental's 501 rooms and suites are a blend of elegance and function. And certainly if you've got the cash to spend, the Mandarin Suite (its equivilent to a Presidental Suite) has its own marble bathroom and private sitting area. The cityscape of Hong Kong almost pales the lush sitting room and master bedroom. Oh, and it also offers the services of your own personal butler.
Not exactly the digs to get some work done with its separate room for spa services. It'll also set you back plenty, costing about 45,000 Hong Kong Dollars a night. Um, that's about $5,800 US Dollars to you and me.
The Mandarin Oriental realizes that even standard rooms can provide luxury, as not everyone's on a CEO budget. It's Study category of rooms still gives you all the necessary requirements to get the job done--even offering wireless internet and even wireless keyboards if necessary.
Want to impress your clients with a lunch or dinner at the hotel? You can do that at one of the Mandarin Oriental's ten restaurants. Pierre's serves up scrumptious French cuisine (a 2-Michelin Star award winner), while the Krug Room has a changing Tasting Menu designed to be eaten around champagne. Heck, even the Cantonese restaurant, Mah Wah, is a Michelin Star holder too.
What's even better than the food, is the view from atop the the restaurants' location on the 25th floor.
Catering is readily available for any conference or meetings you might hold at the hotel; and there's some 9,000 square feet of meeting space with video conferencing, if necessary.
Inasmuch as the Mandarin Oriental is a business oriented hotel, they know no one can be all work and no play. This is why the hotel offers 22,000 square feet of spa space. Who wouldn't be all relaxed after spending time in a Chinese Herbal Steam Room and Kneipp Pool. Plus ample time in a Jacuzzi and sipping some tea in the Tea Lounge.
Alas, this too doesn't come cheap--a 2-hour massage can set you back a few hundred bucks, that's US Dollars I mean. Forget the price, it's well worth it at this three-storey spa.
You certainly don't need to leave the hotel if its not necessary, but in case you do--you're right near Hong Kong's shopping district and the Harbour. It's convenient location also makes it easy to get to, whether by bus, tram, the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), taxi, or even ferry for that matter.
So, the next time you're in the city, think of the Mandarin Oriental as the very best of Hong Kong business. No wonder Travel & Leisure voted it one of the best hotels for 2012, and Conde Nast rated it on its Gold List--it's certainly got my vote too.
