A little planning before a hiking trip is essential for a great hiking experience. Hiking introduces the nomad to new horizons of the mind, treats him/her with strange coincidences, turn complete strangers into best friends for life and prepares the nomad to imbibe the mysticism of the wilderness. Hiking and walking tours are amazing experiences that are rewarding both physically and mentally.

Therefore, if you have the soul of a nomad and you find solace in the surprises of travel, then a hiking trip is perfectly suitable for you. Everyone and anyone can experience hiking trips, whether you are young or old; the only requirement is the nomadic soul that accepts the surprises hidden in coincidences. Besides, going on a family hiking experience is an amazing learning experience for the entire family, especially the kids. Here are some basic points that you should remember while planning a hiking trip.

First, you have to be confident that you are physically fit to cover long walking distances. Before going for a hike, you should practice regular walks for a while, to stay in the hiking mode. You should concentrate on developing that a style of walk that does not exhaust you even when you are walking long distances. It is of course much better if you walk up slope and down slope, because you might need to cover hilly terrains. Walking on the treadmill is not recommended, because a treadmill is a treadmill, it is not a hike in the outdoors. Also, while walking you should be able to enjoy what is around you while you are walking. These fleeting images of life and the persistence of these visions in the fabric of our daily existence are the very essences of hiking and walking tours.

But oft, in lonely rooms, and 'mid the din

Of towns and cities, I have owed to them

In hours of weariness, sensations sweet,

Felt in the blood, and felt along the heart;

-William Wordsworth (lines composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey)

Next, you should learn to maintain a diary. A diary can be an important instrument to pre plan your hiking trip and even after the hiking. Your diary or the scrapbook will be a preserver of your memories, the experiences that you gather in your hiking trip. The diary will be the rendezvous point for strangers, your companion in the hiking trip.

Getting the right equipments and all the basic items needed for a hiking trip is of course as important as taking a diary with you. You should have a weatherproof backpack that is easy to carry. Do not forget the other basic things like medicines, compass and money. Sleeping bags and camping tents are as important. Matchboxes or a cigarette lighter is also an important in a hiking trip. A word of caution, if you are a smoker, then you should always be careful where you are throwing the ends of the cigarettes. ALWAYS make sure that the cigarette but is fully extinguished. However, it is strongly advised that you do not smoke too often on the trip, especially when you are hiking in a forest. And please don’t leave the filters lying around animals eat them choke and die, so please take them with you. Take them back home in a clear plastic bag show them to your friends after all smoking is cool J ??

A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places.
