Ljubljana is a cool city to visit in its own right but there are some great tours to do, here is a great day out. This area is closer to Trieste in Italy but this tour is run also from Lubljana, learn more about it here.

In the southwestern part of Slovenia stretches a region called Kras (Karst). It is a land of rare beauty, secret underground waters and caves, special climate and scarce vegetation. On this day you visit the `Stanjel village with a typical Karst architecture, what is followed by a tasting of dried ham "prsut" and famous red wine Teran at the typical Karst farm.

Afterwards you continue your journey to a picturesque village of Lipica, where for more than 400 years, beautiful white horses called Lipizzaners have been bred. A local guide takes the visitors on a guided tour through the stables pointing out different methods of stages of breeding and training of these noble animals. A special feature is a show-program of a star Lipizzaner studs performing the excellence of what they have learnt in their school of training.

The highlight of this trip was certainly the trip to see the horse show at Lipica, although you pay extra! The Karst region is a big contrast to Bled and the local guide made the trip very interesting with a chance to look at how the region has developed with a visit to a preserved old village. As this is the home of a very famous horse breed then if you like horses it is a must.

The horses were very beautiful, but it was just a visit to the stables, you do not see them do anything interesting. I would recommend booking a show, too. The visit to the Stanjel was interesting, and the guide was fantastic, would probably not have found that on my own.
