This is a tour designed for travelers, who seek to step further than most and feel like real explorers. Combine an ice cave visit with an adventurous hike, as you venture deep into the glacier. Note: More operators are using the same cave, so we can't guarantee being alone in the cave. If you want less crowded experiences we recommend taking a look at our blue ice experience - glacier hiking tours. An extra-small group tour to an ice cave located on Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. This tour is operated by a small, local company. You'll meet your licensed guide at Jökulsárlón. From there it's an approximately 35 minute drive in a 4x4 truck to the glacier parking. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the edge of the glacier. There we put on crampons and start a 45 minute hike on the ice towards the ice cave. We usually spend around 30-45 minutes in the cave, taking plenty of photos and exploring the various formations in the cave.
