A Traveller’s Guide to Cyprus

A Traveller’s Guide to Cyprus

One of the best destinations for a Summer holiday, and for a romantic trip, Cyprus is also one of the more unique countries in the Mediterranean. Formerly a British colony, the island of Cyprus is now divided between its Northern, Turkish region, and its Greek region to the South - most tourists head for the South, where you can find historic cities like Nicosia, as well as regions such as Famagusta, Limassol and Paphos that are famous for their beaches and countryside attractions.

When visiting Cyprus, it’s worth making a stop off at Nicosia, it’s largest city, and the only city in Europe that’s still officially divided between two different states - the Turkish North, and the Greek South. While tensions are still there, visitors can obtain visas to move between the two parts of the city, which itself is home to great architecture, ancient Venetian walls, and a thriving food and drink culture.

Other ways to see Cyprus include staying in the Famagusta region - this is home to some of Cyprus’s best beaches and places to explore in foot, which includes the Cape Greco sea caves and nature reserves. British tourists traditionally descend on the Famagusta resort of Agia Napa every year, which rivals Ibiza for clubbing popularity, and is one of the more inexpensive places to go for a partying holiday.

However, if clubbing’s not quite your thing, you can also seek some peace and quiet in Cyprus’s Troodos Mountains, where you can resorts, miles of virtually untouched land, and historic villages like Kakopetria. Ancient Kourin is also worth visiting for its preserved ampitheatre, as is Ancient Salamis. The Agia Mavri winery, which is near to the Troodos Mountains, is similarly recommended if you want to go on a tasting tour. Longer stays in Cyprus can be particularly enjoyable if you take the time to camp and explore its quiet inland areas, which is particularly the case if you head to the South of the island for a week or two.

Sailing Course from Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a UK enclave that is used mainly for the military and the support thereof. The interesting fact of crossing half way through the runway with my backpack on is very very cool.

Taking our baby to the seaside

Being Monday the majority of people being back to work at the end of a crazy record breaking weather (warm and sunny) saw me and Emily and baby summer brave the madness that is Hunstanton. Normally any hot or warm weekends and this seaside resort gets manic with traffic and people. It is a great place with many happy childhood memories and it was amazing fun for me to bring Emily and Summer for their first experiences of Sunny Hunny as it is locally known. True to form the wind was 10mph more than the mainland but the crowds were non existent and being October yes things were not all open however most things were and so it was a perfect day. I took the pram / buggy off road in the sand and we had a nice walk along the sea front. Summer was really enjoying herself, and so were we.
Arcades seem to have moved on a bit and I couldn't really find anything of interest except we got rid of 2ps and 1ps in the ones that have moving draws and push the money you drop down ever closer to the edge. Emily came out a winner of 40p! We left sharp.

I absolutely gorged myself for a change starting with a bag of prawns shell and head complete, a 99 cone, donuts lunch was a very lousy fish and chips and so dinner I restored faith with a good one at the waterside bar/pub watching the kite surfing in hunstanton which is very popular. There must have been 20+ guys out there and the conditions seemed amazing. We left after a full day and on the way home a dog was loose on the road which was the only thing of note. Back to work tomorrow but how great this mini spell of indian summer.

Cuba is a fascinating historical country situated just 90 miles of the south coast of the USA. Cuba has most things a vacationer is looking for, from some of the most fantastic beaches in the world yet also offering a cultural heritage not found anywhere else !

A note for US Citizens who want to travel to Cuba.
As a US citizen you will have to enter Cuba through the Bahamas or Canada as the easiest route. And guard you passport like your life depends on it while there since there is no official consulate to help you leave and if you do need to get help the unoficial office will report you to the US Imigration and you will be very heavily fined.

Things to Consider When Booking the Perfect Ski Holiday

Things to Consider When Booking the Perfect Ski Holiday

If you want to make sure that your next winter sports break is everything you dreamed it would be, consider the following factors when choosing your destination.

  1. Snow – this is the big one of course. How certain can you be that there will be a good covering of snow on the ground when you arrive? If there is any doubt in your mind, it is probably best to keep looking. Generally speaking, the higher the altitude of the ski resort in question, the greater the chance of snow at any given time.
  1. Choice of runs – if you want to be sure that you never run out of challenges on your holiday, you will want to pick a region where there are plenty of slopes from which to choose. If you are travelling with family, somewhere with a mix of black runs for accomplished skiers, blue and green runs for beginners, and red runs for those who are somewhere in between, would be ideal. Les Trois Vallées (the Three Valleys) in Savoie, France is well worth considering if variety is important to you. As the largest ski area in the world, it has a great choice of runs for skiers of all ability levels.
  1. Nightlife – if you are travelling with a group of adult friends, this is probably going to be an important factor that you need to consider when selecting a suitable resort for your party. Some ski towns are famed for their bustling nightlife whilst others may be rather too quiet once the sun goes down as far as many thrill seeking winter sports enthusiasts are concerned. On the other hand, if you are travelling with young children and will be focusing mainly on ensuring they have a pleasant introduction to skiing on their first winter holiday, somewhere nice and quiet will be perfect for your needs.
  1. Accommodation – unless you are used to roughing it or travelling on a very tight budget you will want to ensure that the chalet in which you stay has all the creature comforts you desire. Ski holiday accommodation in Europe ranges from very basic apartments in rather drab blocks to beautifully decorated high-end chalets that come with their own catering team. The best choice for your party will depend on how much you wish to spend and how much time you plan to spend at your chalet during your holiday. However, even if you will only be there to sleep and you do not wish to spend a fortune, make sure that it is at least a pleasant place in which to spend a few hours.

These are the main factors that I keep in mind when booking winter sports breaks, you may of course have others that you would like to add to the list.
