California is the third largest state on the West Coast of the USA. It is nicknamed the 'Golden State' perhaps in part because of the gold rush but today its obviously wealthy in terms of the cities it houses and the glorious topography.Un-obviously the capital is Sacramento when you might imagine it to be San Francisco or Los Angeles. There are so many places of interest that you could just travel your whole life in California and not get bored apart from the culture you might miss staying in the one country though California is culturaly diverse. Due to a 'clerical error' California belongs to the United States ! It might have belonged to Mexico otherwise. California being so large has various climates but you might imagine that they cover the Mediterranean seasons across the year - Los Angeles has the worst smog and San Francisco is famous for fog, both are acceptable with ac.
The USA and in particular California should not be considered a cheap destination. Though you can lodge for reasonable rates mid week outside of the touristic areas with all the tipping and extra taxes you will find yourself spending more than you think.
Travel Ideas in California
A good way is a California fly drive - hire your car in Los Angeles and drive up PCH Pacific Coast Highway in comfort with some of the most spectacular scenery available on the planet. You will be hard pressed to visit both cities and not be travelling too fast to do it in 2 weeks however. Alternatively you can get a cheap airline ticket from Los Angeles to San Francisco or Oakland (just across the bay)
I have myself visited multiple times and there is still so much I would like to see more of. From the outsiders perspective in terms of tourism you should consider the following California destinations:
Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, PCH (Pacific Coast Highway), The Vineyards eg Sonoma and Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake.
