Maho Beach is a beach situated in St Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles , on the Dutch side of the island. The location is known worldwide because of the Princess Jul ian a International Airport that is situated immediately adjacent to the beach. Incoming air traffic is known to have to touch down as close as possible to the beginning of runway 10 due to the short runway length of 2,180 metres/7,152 ft, resulting in low-flying aircraft on their final approach over the beach. Due to these low flying airplanes (including large passenger airliners such as the Boeing 747), the location is very popular with plane spotters.

Thousands of metres up the vertiginous slopes of Shifou Mountain in Hunan Province , China , a team of workers, operating with hardly any safety measures, are building a footpath

The workers are building a plank road on the side of the mountain that, once it is finished,
will stretch for 3km (9843 ft) and be China 's longest sightseeing footpath

48-year-old Yu Ji (above) is one of the workers and he has been working on high cliffs building such plank roads for more than 10 years. He comments: "Young people don't want this job, as it requires them to stay deep in the mountains for months or even years"

Yu Ji takes charge of the most dangerous part of the project -
drilling the holes to set up pipes to support the footpath

Building a plank road on Shifou Mountain is difficult because the
cliff stands vertical at 90 degrees, without any slope or alcoves

Italy is a popular place to visit for tourists from all over Europe and the rest of the world – there are many different ways to enjoy your holiday in Italy: you can head to the cities, the mountains or the lakes. If you choose the latter, it is well worth visiting Lake Garda.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and also one of the most beautiful. It is located just a bit to the north-east of Verona, and is also accessible from Milan. The weather is cool in the winters and perfect in the summers, with temperatures normally hovering around thirty degrees Celsius. The shores of the lake are well interspersed with resorts that tourists can head to. The atmosphere is peaceful and you can relax and go for strolls or boat bound explorations of the lake itself – in the evening relax in calm hotels and restaurants as you dine on superb Italian food. You can get all sorts of Italian cuisine here, yet it’s good to focus on nice simple dishes with tomatoes, fish and sausages.

Holidays to Italy are a great excuse to get active and enjoy the beautiful countryside: trips to Lake Garda are now exception and you can spend your time here strolling up into the hillsides and peering down onto the stunning waters below. This is also a great place for amateur photographers who will love contrasting the blue of the water with the steep, green shores. With the quality of accommodation it is also a lovely place to relax and spend some time reading and forgetting about all your cares.

People who like Lake Garda can go on to visit Lake Como and other lakeside resorts: this part of the world is a truly great place to enjoy some summertime outdoorsy fun.
