Dubai’s desert safari is an adventure unlike any other- it really is. You've seen the dunes in some directions endless. Types of Desert Safaris
Evening Desert Safari
The evening safari is a favorite among tourists. This is the one we did. It begins in the late afternoon, letting you enjoy the cooler desert air. You drive out visit a shop (of course) and then go on deflate your tyres and ride over the dunes in super powerful trucks. Ride a camel then visit your outpost where you will dine and enjoy other cultural delights as the sun sets.
My experience
We got picked up in the vehicle a big Toyota cruiser and met briefly the others in the truck. This was to be our group though later you all co-mingle at the desert camp. We stopped off at a souvenir shop but the Dubai landscape and drive out to the desert is interesting in it's own right. The Emirate are very friendly people and your driver gives you great information as you go. After the shop where you can buy such items as the 'dress' that looks like what royals wear, dates and other foods typical of the region. Take the toilet stop which was ok, but you know...Then on to the star of the show, seemingly on a highway in the middle of the dessert you stop near other trucks and the driver lets air out of the tyres. This allows the vehicle to be controlled across the dunes, though in the deeper sand on the backside of the dunes the trucks 'float' you feel at times like you are in a yacht. At other times you feel the brute power of the cruiser. And I appreciated the skill of the driver. It was thrilling. After a good time dune bashing we stopped and got to walk around in the middle of the dessert. What's amazing is that on the dark sand you can walk, but not on the light sand it's too hot!
Then onto the desert camp, which i found fascinating. A square walled construction and many tourists gathering for the show and dinner. But first a ride on a camel. I had been on a camel at some point but it's still a curious 10 minute ride, and that's enough for me! The eveening show was amazing featuring whirling dancer belly dancing and a feast. It was amazing value at around $55. Will do again next time I'm here.
