Island Peak (20,305 feet) was given the name of Imja Tse in 1983, although even locals still use the former.c because it resembles an island in a sea of ice when seen from Dingboche.

Enjoy the Las Vegas vibe with a Parisian flavour
As any seasoned Las Vegas visitor will know, Sin City is packed to the rafters with huge mega resorts boasting a range of different and exciting themes. This is a destination with hotels to cater for every taste and preference, from properties that boast circus acts and theme parks inside to ones based on various famous cities from around the world, such as Venice, New York and Paris.
Whatever you are looking for in Las Vegas, you will find it in one of the beautiful resort hotels that line the famous Las Vegas strip. You will find hotels that boast a great party vibe, properties that provide a haven to relax after a hard day of exploring and resorts that offer the ability to enjoy a whole host of entertainment without ever having to leave the hotel.
If you are looking for a hotel that boasts chic elegance, tasteful décor and plenty of decadence, the place to head to is the Paris resort and casino, which is a fabulous mega resort that enables you to enjoy the wonderful Las Vegas vibe fused with a unique Parisian flavour.
The Paris resort and casino enjoys an excellent mid-strip location on Las Vegas Boulevard, where it is surrounded by a variety of other mega resorts. Marked by the majestic Eiffel Tower replica outside along with a replica of the famous Arc De Triomphe and the Paris balloon, this is a hotel that is easy to spot from afar! For those who want to be at the thick of the action, this is the perfect location as it is a far busier part of the strip than the quieter north side and offers a whole host of entertainment right on your doorstep.
My stay at the Paris
Over the past year I have stayed at five different Las Vegas hotels, all located on the Strip. The Paris is definitely the most chic and elegant property I have stayed in and during my time at the resort I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing break in vibrant surroundings and with a world of entertainment at my fingertips.
I took a trip a long time ago now to Frankfurt with friends. I just wanted to share some of the images. I checked the images to try and find out when these were through EXIF metadata but it seems to have a modern date.
I often consider the way in which I was first introduced to backpacking. It was via a newspaper ad for a package tour to watch the Superbowl in Miami. I called the number and yes it was too good to be true! I hung up disappointed after being asked to buy an alternative deal it had already been booked out.
[How many times do you find deals advertised online to be forced into telephoning and getting a sales guy tell you that offer has gone or was for alternative dates]
But the energy I had to get somewhere and have an adventure didn’t die. I said ok why Miami? If I am building this myself why not pick my spot? I was into some bodybuilding at the time and had a connection with LA at least an imaginary one anyway. And there was so much coming from California into TV (there was no internet yet) it was an attractive prospect. Long story short I was taking the escalator down as it Welcomes you to Los Angeles, suitcase in hand I had yet not turned into a backpacker.

Beach vacations are a popular choice for many travelers. Hours spent on the soft white sand, with a book or beer in hand, trying your best to get and keep a golden tan. If you can't wait to spend your days parked on a sunlounger or you're looking for a little extra entertainment by the shore, there are some great activities to take part in at the beach. Luckily, New York travel company AllTheRooms is here to let you in on some of the best things to do water-side.
Scuba diving travel is not like any other type of travel. Of course not; you have more fun at your destination than most other regular tourists. But it goes further than that. Planning scuba diving travel means you have more to think about than the non-diving vacationer before leaving for your destination.
We all have our tastes and preferences when it comes to food. Some like it hot, others like it sweet and sour, a lot of us go either way, but we all have our favorites. Imagine if all of us were standing in front of the map of the world and had to choose one country to handle all of our dietary needs - which country would you choose.
For me, the answer is Thailand. Seriously, no other country comes even close to matching all the culinary delights Thai cuisine has spawned and perfected over the centuries. I could wax poetic for hours on end about the tingling sensations on my palates whenever I immerse myself into authentic Thai foods, but I get the sense that you would much rather read about where to go and what to eat. Without further ado, let’s visit Thailand in all its splendor of flavors…
The trail ascended through the dense jungle of Panama. As we neared the peak a ruined fortress came into view. My guide, Jason cautioned me to avoid the main doorway and led me in through a cannon port. From a safe distance we checked out the doorway.
If you are headed to Singapore, chances are the next stop on your trip will be Malaysia or vice versa. Malaysia and Singapore are part of the South-East Asian triad of Bangkok-Singapore-Malaysia that most travelers prefer to club together in one trip. For one, all these destinations are very close to one another and hence easy to travel to and secondly, a combined trip makes economic sense. Singapore is a mere 320 kms away from Kuala Lumpur (capital of Malaysia), with the latter being located to the northwest of the former. This short distance can be travelled by air, road or rail; depending on what travel mode you’d prefer the most.
- Train
If you are not in hurry to get to your destination and want to enjoy the travel experience, then embarking on a train ride from Singapore to Malaysia would make perfect sense. There are daily trains departing twice a day (8.45, 13.45) and once at night (23.30) from Singapore Woodlands station which is in the north of the city. The day journey is around 6 hours and it takes approximately 8 hours to reach Malaysia if you board the overnight train. Delays are frequent but the largely comfortable and picturesque journey that will take your through palm plantations and inner villages make the experience worth it. The fares are approximately US $10 one way.
- Bus/Road
320 kms is definitely not too long a distance to cover by road. There are many luxury bus services that operate between the two cities. Singapore tourism has no definite bus depot, so buses depart from Clarke Quay, Harbourfront Centre and Orchard Road. These luxury buses offer services like massage chairs and wi-fi. If you are looking for cheaper travel options, then you can choose from a host of secondary bus services like Consortium, Transnasional Express, among others. The journey usually takes 5 – 7 hours depending on immigration. However, traffic can play spoilsport on weekends and considerably lengthen the trip. The tickets cost anything from US $25 - US $60 and it is recommended to book them in advance.
- Air
The flight between the two cities is merely 45 minutes. There are numerous budget airlines that run services between Singapore and Malaysia. Air Asia, Tiger Airways, JetStar are a few of the budget airlines that give good deals on this route. However, you will be required to check-in an hour earlier and once you arrive, it will take minimum one hour to get to Kuala Lumpur city centre from the airport.

One of the best destinations for a Summer holiday, and for a romantic trip, Cyprus is also one of the more unique countries in the Mediterranean. Formerly a British colony, the island of Cyprus is now divided between its Northern, Turkish region, and its Greek region to the South - most tourists head for the South, where you can find historic cities like Nicosia, as well as regions such as Famagusta, Limassol and Paphos that are famous for their beaches and countryside attractions.
When visiting Cyprus, it’s worth making a stop off at Nicosia, it’s largest city, and the only city in Europe that’s still officially divided between two different states - the Turkish North, and the Greek South. While tensions are still there, visitors can obtain visas to move between the two parts of the city, which itself is home to great architecture, ancient Venetian walls, and a thriving food and drink culture.
Other ways to see Cyprus include staying in the Famagusta region - this is home to some of Cyprus’s best beaches and places to explore in foot, which includes the Cape Greco sea caves and nature reserves. British tourists traditionally descend on the Famagusta resort of Agia Napa every year, which rivals Ibiza for clubbing popularity, and is one of the more inexpensive places to go for a partying holiday.
However, if clubbing’s not quite your thing, you can also seek some peace and quiet in Cyprus’s Troodos Mountains, where you can resorts, miles of virtually untouched land, and historic villages like Kakopetria. Ancient Kourin is also worth visiting for its preserved ampitheatre, as is Ancient Salamis. The Agia Mavri winery, which is near to the Troodos Mountains, is similarly recommended if you want to go on a tasting tour. Longer stays in Cyprus can be particularly enjoyable if you take the time to camp and explore its quiet inland areas, which is particularly the case if you head to the South of the island for a week or two.
Gibraltar is a UK enclave that is used mainly for the military and the support thereof. The interesting fact of crossing half way through the runway with my backpack on is very very cool.
Being Monday the majority of people being back to work at the end of a crazy record breaking weather (warm and sunny) saw me and Emily and baby summer brave the madness that is Hunstanton. Normally any hot or warm weekends and this seaside resort gets manic with traffic and people. It is a great place with many happy childhood memories and it was amazing fun for me to bring Emily and Summer for their first experiences of Sunny Hunny as it is locally known. True to form the wind was 10mph more than the mainland but the crowds were non existent and being October yes things were not all open however most things were and so it was a perfect day. I took the pram / buggy off road in the sand and we had a nice walk along the sea front. Summer was really enjoying herself, and so were we.
Arcades seem to have moved on a bit and I couldn't really find anything of interest except we got rid of 2ps and 1ps in the ones that have moving draws and push the money you drop down ever closer to the edge. Emily came out a winner of 40p! We left sharp.
I absolutely gorged myself for a change starting with a bag of prawns shell and head complete, a 99 cone, donuts lunch was a very lousy fish and chips and so dinner I restored faith with a good one at the waterside bar/pub watching the kite surfing in hunstanton which is very popular. There must have been 20+ guys out there and the conditions seemed amazing. We left after a full day and on the way home a dog was loose on the road which was the only thing of note. Back to work tomorrow but how great this mini spell of indian summer.
Plan your Cuba holiday using this simple guide.
Cuba is a fascinating historical country situated just 90 miles of the south coast of the USA. Cuba has most things a vacationer is looking for, from some of the most fantastic beaches in the world yet also offering a cultural heritage not found anywhere else !
A note for US Citizens who want to travel to Cuba.
As a US citizen you will have to enter Cuba through the Bahamas or Canada as the easiest route. And guard you passport like your life depends on it while there since there is no official consulate to help you leave and if you do need to get help the unoficial office will report you to the US Imigration and you will be very heavily fined.
There are 2 ways to have a great travel experience in Cuba
If you want to make sure that your next winter sports break is everything you dreamed it would be, consider the following factors when choosing your destination.
- Snow – this is the big one of course. How certain can you be that there will be a good covering of snow on the ground when you arrive? If there is any doubt in your mind, it is probably best to keep looking. Generally speaking, the higher the altitude of the ski resort in question, the greater the chance of snow at any given time.
- Choice of runs – if you want to be sure that you never run out of challenges on your holiday, you will want to pick a region where there are plenty of slopes from which to choose. If you are travelling with family, somewhere with a mix of black runs for accomplished skiers, blue and green runs for beginners, and red runs for those who are somewhere in between, would be ideal. Les Trois Vallées (the Three Valleys) in Savoie, France is well worth considering if variety is important to you. As the largest ski area in the world, it has a great choice of runs for skiers of all ability levels.
- Nightlife – if you are travelling with a group of adult friends, this is probably going to be an important factor that you need to consider when selecting a suitable resort for your party. Some ski towns are famed for their bustling nightlife whilst others may be rather too quiet once the sun goes down as far as many thrill seeking winter sports enthusiasts are concerned. On the other hand, if you are travelling with young children and will be focusing mainly on ensuring they have a pleasant introduction to skiing on their first winter holiday, somewhere nice and quiet will be perfect for your needs.
- Accommodation – unless you are used to roughing it or travelling on a very tight budget you will want to ensure that the chalet in which you stay has all the creature comforts you desire. Ski holiday accommodation in Europe ranges from very basic apartments in rather drab blocks to beautifully decorated high-end chalets that come with their own catering team. The best choice for your party will depend on how much you wish to spend and how much time you plan to spend at your chalet during your holiday. However, even if you will only be there to sleep and you do not wish to spend a fortune, make sure that it is at least a pleasant place in which to spend a few hours.
These are the main factors that I keep in mind when booking winter sports breaks, you may of course have others that you would like to add to the list.
