La Vista Sol Punta Cana Review
When we visited Jan 21st 2023
Room block 8 it is 'new' which looked relatively true however slighlty spoiled by discolouration of the floors tiles etc which was a construction carelousness.
It's a decent sized room and did have air con which we didn't initially spot the control panel for. It also has a resort right next door under construction which added noise and the terrible view as you left the room. Luckily the other side was overlooking the pool which is pleasant. The noise was not a huge problem.
The room was functional apart from a bedside lamp it took up a lot of space so we moved it to the wardrobe floor.
There is a good sized safe which was large enough for most normal laptops and your valuables I would say which included my sea fishing reel.
We didn't always have access to the safe as it needs a key in the back of the door to function ($10). Nothing went missing and I felt comfortable and trusted the staff here quickly. But don't assume anything.
The pillows also needed some getting used to. They were seemingly filled with lots of individual pieces of small foam I did not notice but my partner is more like a princess than me :) It is functional and that is a running theme. They use seconds for fixtures and fittings where it isn't vital so visual stuff mostly. the fake chrome buttons which operate the toilet are 'bubbled' so would have not been sold in a shop, but it feels like this resort buys this stuff up to keep costs down. It really is an ethos you feel all over the country.
The mattress was good as was the linen but the blanket was roughish feel.
They are very good at what they do though because they only pick the things that affect your eyes not your overall pleasure.
The shower is spacious enough for 2 with a shower head fixture and also a ceiling one. Plenty of pressure and warm if you like. All products supplied.
The hairdryer was good and bathroom lighting was good too. So the room which is not at all the best was good for us during our 10 day in Punta Cana.
The door keys are plastic wifi type. A ceiling fan and aircon will keep you comfortable. There were two double beds. There was plenty of space for 2 people but 4 in a room you will need to arrange your stuff quite well.
Service and Staff
I found the staff to be polite most all of the time. Only once one staff member was unhelpful as we had the wrong time for our pre booked restaurant and unhelpful and pulled a face. There may have been seating space in the next slot but she was not interested.
There was found to be an ATM near the theatre, which is impressive; a large stage and screen. This is something we did not often avail ourselves of due to jetlag or other.
Spa and Gym
We were going to have a massage however the SPA did not feel special enough in the detail. For example to have a drink you got pushed to a package double the price. We were offered a single glass of wine for example but it isn't as standard.
I think it would be enjoyable and you should decide on arrival. The gym just next door is included and has enough of a selection of weights and equipment to satisy even a heavy powerlifter. Perhaps actually a lack of floor space for the yoga types like I converted to. However you can do it as they have mats- more mats than they have floor space for.
Food and Drink
There are around 5 different restaurants you can chose from apart from the main buffet restaurant. It was noted that for such a place fish was everley lacking in the main buffet.
Getting a coffee is irritating to say the least as it is machine provided and there are queues for a small cup at a time.
There is a decent selection of food but if you are intollerant you might find extra difficulty in knowing what you can eat.
Good fruit options, salads too. Deserts at times not the best but many options and colours of things. The meat dishes were on the whole ok but lacking real fish options.
Tours
I would advise to just book on Viator as the tours are the same but cheaper and you can't trust the Nexus sales people it seems. They are truthful to a point but you will pay more. See our day trip to samana here for more information.
